Not sure if you have heard about this movie, The Odyssey. It’s by a director called Christopher Nolan, and stars everyone in the world, apart from me. The movie is due out in just a couple of weeks, and there is a final trailer.
There isn’t much I can say about The Odyssey that you don’t already know. It’s got Matt Damon in it, a script that uses the expression ‘dad’ in it, and it’s had a little bit of controversy over the casting. I forget why.
This has meant The Odyssey has had a lot of free advertising, but at what cost? They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity, but that’s debatable.
This trailer went up 18 hours ago (at time of writing), but look at the numbers:

I know this doesn’t mean a lot, but having a negative ratio isn’t what Nolan would be hoping for. Usually, a Nolan movie would be met with a bit more enthusiasm. Although, this has become less so over time.
We all looked forward to Tenet, but that wasn’t his finest movie. I remember seeing it at the cinema, just after lockdown, being disappointed and never watching it again.
We know that The Odyssey didn’t have any ‘influencer’ screenings. So, at the moment, there isn’t all the praise heaped upon it from Nolan fans. We are still waiting for the ‘critics’ reviews as well.
The movie was entirely shot on 70mm IMAX, so it will most likely look very impressive on the big screen. Are you going to see it?
The Odyssey is in theatres on 17th July.
