First Look At Greta Gerwig’s NARNIA

There is a new Narnia movie on the way; we reported that earlier this year. The full title is Narnia: The Magician’s Apprentice.

Empire has revealed some details and images from the new Greta Gerwig movie.

One piece of casting that’s been announced is Meryl Streep as Aslan. Aslan, the talking lion, with a big mane because he’s a male lion. I think I read he’s also an allegory for Jesus/God. So yes, Aslan has been gender swapped. That’s not like Netflix!

Gerwig has said about casting Streep:

“I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight. I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”

And to think, Wallace Shawn is still alive and voice acting. I can’t help but think, and stop me if I’m off track here, but Streep’s casting is more of a ‘hook’. You know, cause a bit of controversy before the movie comes out type of thing.

Narnia: The Magician’s Apprentice is a prequel to the original trilogy: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. All of these have been made into movies.

Gerwig’s new movie will tell the story of how Narnia was originally created. She is directing and writing the script.

Narnia: The Magician’s Apprentice will be in cinemas Feb 2027. Even though it’s a Netflix movie, Gerwig insisted it had a theatrical release.
