Another high profile casting score over at HBO for their upcoming Harry Potter mega-series adaptation. According to Variety, Nicholas Hoult (Superman, Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men) will play Professor Gilderoy Lockhart.
Lockhart is a key character in the second book, The Chamber Of Secrets, who then appears several times in later novels in a smaller role.
He is something of a celebrity in the Wizarding World, with tales of his battles against the Dark Arts forming the basis of his media personality.
He takes on the position of Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, and in the process sees another celebrity in the form of Harry Potter, famous for surviving Voldermort’s attack on him as a baby.
It turns out that Lockhart and his legend are not quite all they seem, as Harry and his friends are placed in danger once more.

Kenneth Branagh played the role in the 2002 film adaptation.
Harry Potter arrives on HBO and HBO Max on December 25th, starting with the adaptation of the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Hoult will appear in the second series, which is preparing to shoot.
Hoult is currently working on Man of Tomorrow in Atlanta and will move straight on to Harry Potter when finished.
