Jack Nicholson retired from acting after appearing in How Do You Know in 2011. There was talk of him working again, first in a remake of the German hit Toni Erdmann back in 2017, then in a potential project with James L. Brooks, director of How Do You Know.
Apparently, this ain’t happening. Nicholson’s long-time friend, actor Michael Douglas, has said he won’t be coming out of retirement at 89 years old.

Douglas, 82 years old himself, was in Swansea, Wales, discussing his memoirs, and he confirmed Nicholson won’t be returning to acting. As reported by World of Reel:
“I would have liked to have acted with Jack. He’s not working any more. He’s well. He has disappeared. I know that. I still see him, but he is fine. He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. It happens. He deserves it. I understand. He is a few years older than me, but I understand.”
Nicholson is one of only four male actors to win three Academy Awards and one of only two actors to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting in films made in every decade from the 1960s to the 2000s (the other is Michael Caine). His 12 Academy Award nominations make him the most nominated male actor in the Academy’s history.
