Statistically, John Wick should have caught a stray bullet by now and be pushing up the daisies. However, he’s still refusing to go down and out. John Wick 5 is in the works, as is an animated prequel to the movies. We reported last year that a fifth movie might be in the works, plus an animated series. It turns out both are coming.
CinemaCon has been huge, with lots of news coming out that we will catch up on. At their panel, Lionsgate announced that Keanu Reeves is in line to be back in the bulletproof suit for the new movie, and to provide a voice-over for the animated installment.
The animated prequel to John Wick will not be for kids. It will be more along the lines of Invincible, with lots of blood, guts, and gore. Lionsgate would also like to release it in cinemas.
Baba Yaga
The untitled John Wick prequel will take place before the events of the first movie. People believe it will show the story of his fabled ‘Impossible Task,’ which the original movie mentioned.
It will show how Wick had to kill all of his rivals in one night, and gain his freedom from the High Table to let him be with the love of his life, Helen. That sounds nice, I hope it works out for both of them.
Shannon Tindle will direct the new John Wick animated movie. Tindle is known for Netflix’s Ultraman: Rising and has worked on movies like Kubo and the Two Strings, Megamind and Coraline. I’ve heard that the Ultraman movie is good, so I might have to check it out.
Venessa Taylor will pen the screenplay. She was known for writing Game of Thrones, The Shape of Water, and the Divergent series.
John Wick is back in the Ballerina soon, starring Ana De Armas and I’m guessing he won’t die in that one either.
