Every time we write about the rebooted Jumanji movies, we always mention how they are way more fun than anyone expected. They seem to have captured something in their tone that is missing from other recent reboot attempts, like Ghostbusters.
Now, Sony Pictures has premiered the full trailer for Jumanji: Open World, which marks the third and final entry in the series following 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level. Can the franchise go out on a high?
This time around, the players may have escaped the ever-changing jungles of Jumanji, but this time the game breaks free of its console and unleashes chaos into their world. The core quartet of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are back as the in-game characters. Also returning are the “players” in the form of Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser’Darius Blain.
Hold up. Ser’Darius? I feel like we should have known about this name sooner.
Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, and Rhys Darby also return, with new joiners including Burn Gorman, Brittany O’Grady, Tony Curran, Elena Sanchez, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes.
Jake Kasdan returns from the first two movies to direct, and he also co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Jumanji: Open World opens in cinemas on Christmas Day.
