Some directors become iconic with the movies they make. Spielberg and Jaws, Welles and Citizen Kane, Ritchie and Lock Stock. Then you have the Wachowskis and The Matrix. Easily one of the most iconic movies ever, but the Wachowskis never really reached iconic status.
After The Matrix movies, the Wachowskis had the world at their feet. Credit where credit is due, they did try to make something new. Speed Racer is a really interesting movie, weird, but interesting.
Then, movies like Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending were again interesting new IPs, but didn’t do well.

Lily Wachowski is now looking for investment in a new movie, but sadly, having problems. This might be for two reasons.
Firstly, as I have just said, the Wachowskis don’t have the best track record. Yes, they have The Matrix, but they also have other movies that you have to be reminded that they even exist.

The second reason that this new movie, The Hunted, cannot get financing might be that it has ‘trans representation’ and this is giving financiers and studios pause. Lily said:
“People like it, but they really don’t want to make it because it’s [got a] wall-to-wall trans cast. I have to get creative and figure out different ways that I can get this in front of people.”
“This is a script that was extremely important for me to write. It was a response to what is happening in the world for trans people, and it gave me a hugely cathartic receptacle to dump all of my anger and rage and frustration into.”
Lily is looking to get $10 million invested in the new movie.
On paper, the Wachowski’s net worth is $200 million. Now, I know that ‘net worth’ isn’t ‘money in the bank’, but I’m guessing if The Hunted was such an important movie to her, she could raise the money herself?
