Monday’s Movie Memes… And Moan

I have bad news; it’s Monday again. The weekend is over; you have to go back to work, and I’m sorry, so, so sorry. At least there are memes; I hope you can enjoy Monday’s movie memes at work, on their time, not yours.

We also need a good Monday moan. What did you watch this weekend that you need to moan about? Did you see The Odyssey? Or did you go high-brow and watch SpongeBob SquarePants?

My Monday moan about Mosquito Coast (1986). Firstly, there is nothing wrong with the movie; quite the opposite, it’s a fantastic movie. I haven’t seen it since it first came out, and I saw it when Harrison Ford’s name popped up on a TV quiz.

Peter Weir directed Mosquito Coast, based on a novel by Paul Theroux.

It’s an incredible story about a man who wants to escape from the US and move to a quiet part of Southern America and live off the land. It’s still relevant today; I imagine a lot of people would like to escape the rat race and live somewhere quietly. I will do a more in-depth review later.

My Monday moan is about how we just don’t get movies like Mosquito Coast much any more. It’s not perfect, but the story is so incredibly compelling.

It can be said it’s political; it deals with religion, family, and how we cope in the world we live in. But it’s not preachy and just stupid about it; it makes you think about what you want out of life. How often does that happen these days?

That’s my moan; what do you need to moan about this Monday? Oh, and here are the memes.
