Amazon MGM Studios has set a date for the new version of The Thomas Crown Affair. This version will star Michael B. Jordan and Taylor Russell (Lost In Space, Bones And All).
This is billed as a “reimagining” of the Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo-led movie from 1999. That, itself, was a remake of the original Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway movie from 1968.
The 1999 movie, directed by John McTiernan, followed a billionaire corporate tycoon who steals Monet’s painting of San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk, worth $100 million. He is tracked by NYPD Detective Michael McCann and insurance investigator Catherine Banning.
In the original, millionaire businessman and sportsman Crown, out of boredom and for the challenge, masterminds a five-man heist of $2.66 million from a Boston bank – about $18 million in today’s money. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, winning Best Original Song for Michel Legrand’s The Windmills of Your Mind.
The 1999 movie is often held up as an example of a remake done right.
Drew Pearce and Wes Tooke are penning the new project. It is planned to have a theatrical run, and will arrive in theaters on March 5th 2027.
