I have seen some absolute shit in my time. I have also gone on the record as having been entertained by some things other Outposters may consider shit. But very little I have ever seen is as shit as Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Even low budget nonsense can have some charm. Other things can cross the “so bad it’s good” threshold and at least provide some comedic value.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is none of those things. It doesn’t even have the decency to just be plainly turgid.
It is like the entertainment equivalent of revenge, deliberately distilling absolutely everything anyone has ever complained about in Nu-Trek into some kind of concentrated nexus of suck.
Hateful show. You could perhaps forgive it if you thought, for a moment, that it was made by some beings from another world who had once heard Star Trek being described to a third party in a language they didn’t really understand, but it wasn’t.

It was made by people who genuinely thought they were making good TV, and making Star Trek. Then decided that Star Trek really needed about 1000% more of just about everything that was entirely wrong about whatever they thought Star Trek was.
In fact, I am just making myself angry even thinking about it, so I am just going to stop now and simply share the news that acting legend Bill Nighy has been cast in the second, and thankfully final, season of this dogshit.
Nighy will play Nahla’s estranged father, Nyk Ake.
I have no idea who that character is, nor do I have any inclination to find out, so do what you will with this news.
I am off to watch some clips from The Wrath Of Khan just to wash away the taste.
