RAMBO: ORIGINS Snares Director

It appears it really is true, you just don’t turn it off. Even if you want to. We are getting more Rambo. Once more the jungles of Thailand will double for Vietnam and Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander is set to direct.

You may remember him from Christmas horror caper Rare Exports, Presidential hunting movie Big Game, and the Nazi slaying insanity that is Sisu.

It is an origin film about Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character John Rambo. It will be called John Rambo. It will be a prequel to 1982’s acclaimed First Blood. Before Rambo became a one-man Commie killing war machine with inexhaustible ammunition, he was a veteran Green Beret who was pushed too far by a small town sheriff.

“You can’t park there, mate.”

Before that, he was a highly specialist soldier in the Vietnam war.

According to Deadline, Millennium Media (The Expendables, Olympus Has Fallen) is shopping John Rambo around at the Cannes market. Stallone is not involved, but is said to be aware, and producers are keeping in touch.

Kevin King-Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, and Avi Lerner produce with an October filming date set in the land of ladyboys. The screenplay is by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
