Nobody knows why, but Ride Or Die has just been cancelled.
Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer-led action comedy series, according to a report in Deadline.
Another female-led project proving the female audience isn’t just captured by saying “Look! Women!” at them? Well, maybe not. This is where things get mysterious.
Ride or Die followed Debbie Claybourne (Octavia Spencer), who learns her best friend Judith Burton (Hannah Waddingham) is an international assassin when they are forced to go on the run together after an assassination attempt goes wrong.
It had a strong supporting cast in the form of Ed Skrein, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, Jacky Ido, with Sylvia Hoeks, and Bill Nighy.
The show had very low promotional costs, but despite the lack of fanfare it was a bona fide hit, pulling in bigger numbers than a lot of other shows in its bracket.
It hit the top slot in the daily U.S. rankings, and was the most-watched Prime Video original worldwide for three weeks straight.
It was No.1 in the U.S. minutes watched for Prime.
It broke into the Nielsen Weekly Top 10 for streaming and was Prime Video’s most-watched new scripted series in the U.S. from August 2025-July 2026.
Numbers wise, it beat Mr & Mrs Smith, which scored a renewal.
So it must have been a critical flop, right? Wrong!
96% critics/85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and a decent 72/100 on Metacritic. The critical feedback was positive.
So what the hell is going on here? Sky-high production costs? Problems behind the scenes? Nobody seems to know right now.
