RINGS Season 3 Chasing Viewers?

It is no secret that Amazon’s The Rings Of Power has not been well-received by audiences. Tolkien purists flat-out rejected it, and it seemed to lose normo fans the longer it went on.

It seems that the third season is going to be a flat out attempt to grab audiences back.

It won’t be subtle. The latest series is to jump forward five years to bring on a version of Tolkein’s Middle Earth that more casual viewers will be familiar with.

They are also going to design the opening so that the same casuals can just jump straight back in, with a Fellowship Of The Ring-style montage.

The show runners have given an interview to Empire where they spoke about this play. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay told the outlet:

“It was a calculated decision to start with real momentum, and hopefully bring a few more people onto the train.

The first two seasons were all about building out this world. Throughout that time, we’re lighting all these fuses and setting all these stories in motion. The third season is when all those bombs are starting to explode.”

The third season will see large scale war break out across Middle-earth as Sauron’s armies march, and he starts to create the One Ring.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Prime Video on November 11th.
