ROBOPOCALYPSE TV Series On The Way

I’ve not heard of Robopocalypse, but then, that’s because it’s a book. Steven Spielberg said he wanted to make it into a movie, but it didn’t pan out. Instead, Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman will be making it into a series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series is being developed by Imagine Entertainment and Weed Road. Goldsman will serve as the showrunner and will write the first episode.

The book of Robopocalypse was written by Daniel H. Wilson and released in 2011. The story is about a researcher who pushes the limits of AI to the max, causing a war between humans and robots. People have compared the writing to that of Michael Crichton.

Spielberg had wanted to turn the book into a movie, even before it was released. A script was drafted by Drew Goddard, with Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth attached. Spielberg eventually postponed the movie in 2014, with talk of Michael Bay directing, but that didn’t pan out either. Spielberg will serve as producer of the project.

Robopocalypse seems to be more relevant than ever, with the rise of AI and the fact that we are all definitely going to die because of it. OK, it might not be that bad, but it will take our jobs. The logline for the book is:

“Not far into our future, the dazzling technology that runs our world turns against us. At Zero Hour—the moment the robots attack—the human race is almost annihilated, but as its scattered remnants regroup, humanity for the first time unites in a determined effort to fight back. Brilliantly conceived and amazingly detailed, Robopocalypse is an action-packed epic with chilling implications about the real technology that surrounds us.”
