Before Borat, and before Bruno, there was Ali G. Now it looks like the “urban” legend is back.
After first appearing as the roving cultural reporter on British television, part of the line-up on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show, alongside Ricky Gervais, the character then got his own show.
Following Da Ali G Show, the Sasha Baron Cohen character broke out into a movie.

2002’s Ali G Indahouse co-starred Martin Freeman, Charles Dance, Michael Gambon and Rhona Mitra among others, and was a hit.
Now, The Insneider has reported that a new feature film has been shot already, having been completed in secret. It is expected to arrive in theaters next year.
A spokesperson for Cohen has declined to comment, but it is thought that the movie was shot under the cover of a fake stand-up tour.
Ali G is a faux-streetwise poseur from Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, England. Ali G speaks in black rude boy–style Multicultural London English. He usually conducts interviews with unsuspecting subjects who do not realise they have been set up.
At the time, he was fully mocking urban culture, particularly what was known as “wigger” culture within it. Given that Cohen doesn’t really shy away from controversial activity with his characters, it is going to be interesting to see how he plays this in our more… sensitive age.
