Charlie Sheen is back on our screens, and not just as a cautionary tale. He will co-star with his own father, Martin Sheen, in the AMC half-hour family comedy series Happy Jack.
The project is set up at Warner Bros. With a six episode order already in place.
Much is made of the fact that it will be shot in the same studios as Friends, that sitcom juggernaut, and the writers, show runners and executive producers are Jim Patterson and Matt Ross.
They worked with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men, a sitcom that continues to age really well.
Happy Jack follows Charlie, as Jack, a lifelong loafer with two great daughters. They turned out good more because of the influence of his dad (Martin) rather than his own efforts.
Kate runs Jack’s company and keeps him on course, while Sam is sometimes a bit more like her dad.
When Sam comes home to introduce everyone to her new boyfriend, Jack’s shocked to learn Paul, a former investment banker turned van life guru, is the same age as he is.
Jack soon realises he’s got a choice to make. Will he keep looking out for number one, or embrace this last chance to be a real part of his daughters’ lives?
The report at Deadline points out that AMC doesn’t usually go for too much comedy, so observers are watching this with interest.
