Steven Yeun (Glenn from The Walking Dead) will not be suiting up as Sentry for Marvel’s Thunderbolts due to a “scheduling conflict” caused by the writer’s strike. Or is it that he has some self-respect and realises Marvel movies in their current form are a mess and an embarrassment to all those involved?
In their defense, Marvel never officially confirmed Yeun’s casting, which was heavily rumoured way back in February ’23. This gives them a nice way of saving face, but let’s be honest, there’s no smoke without fire. And as Sentry is white with blonde hair and blue eyes, the casting of Korean-born Steven Yeun was probably spot-on given Marvel’s recent history of fuck-tardery!
Based on the Marvel comics about a band of antiheroes, Thunderbolts is set to bring together the worlds of Ant-Man and Wasp, The Falcon And Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and the upcoming Not Captain America aka Falcon Wearing Captain America’s Outfit. Thunderbolts was initially slated for July 2024 but was pushed back a year to July 2025.
Thunderbolts is to be directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) with Lee Sung Jin (Beef) penning the script from a first draft by Black Widow writer Eric Pearson. Cast includes Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell and Ayo Edebiri from The Bear has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
With Yeun now departing a role he was never officially given, and my earlier description of Sentry known to the world, rumours that Gorlock The Destroyer, and Dylan Mulvaney are being invited to audition are unfounded at this time. Watch this space.
