STREET FIGHTER Is Casting

Street Fighter occupies a very special place in your heart if you are an Outposter of a certain age. From the original Capcom coin-op game to endless college dorm room Street Fighter II tournaments on the SNES.

From Raul Julia acting like he wandered in from the set of another, far better movie shooting next door, to Kylie Minogue giving thousands of teenage boys impure thoughts.

Street-Fighter

Street Fighter has seemingly always been there. Comics. Novels. T-shirts. Numerous sequels. After starting out as the Capcom arcade game in 1987, it went interstellar in 1991 with the release of Street Fighter II. Then it was adapted into a movie in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme, and then again in 2009 in a low-budget effort.

Now a third try is on the cards at Sony, and it may be further along than we thought.

Jason Momoa, wrestler Roman Reigns, Andrew Koji (Warrior), and Noah Centineo (Warfare and the upcoming Masters Of The Universe) are all reportedly in talks to star in the new live-action adaptation.

Both Koji and Centineo were previously rumored for the roles of Ryu & Ken, and now the trade press, starting with The Hollywood Reporter, are confirming it. Reigns is rumored for Akuma, and there is speculation that Momoa will be Blanka as it’s his favorite character and the one he always uses when he plays the game.

Kitao Sakurai (Twisted Metal, The Eric Andre Show) has taken over from directors Danny and Michael Philippou.

There is no news on potential storyline or release date yet.
