STREET FIGHTER Sinks WHALEFALL At Box Office

The weekend has landed, and has gone away again, and now it is Monday. Shit. Along with the inevitable arrival of some memes, comes news from the weekend box office, which has performed generally below expectations.

Street Fighter, the live-action adaptation of the popular Capcom video game, was the first to disappoint slightly. It was tracking strongly, and fans are loving it even if critics aren’t, but it was just behind the tracking numbers with $31 million. Maybe the soft reception from the critics put off some wandering normos?

We wonder why?

What is interesting is that Street Fighter is getting a huge swathe of business from men over 35. This means it seems to have directly impacted the other big release of the week.

Whalefall is way below its tracking, with just $8 million which puts it in fourth place.

Documentary You Can See Everything basically crashed the party. Despite only opening on 855 screens it has pulled in stellar critical reviews, and a staggering $15 million..

Other Mommy has dropped off a huge amount, and is in third with $8.4 million. Sense and Sensibility rounds out the top five with $7.5 million.

Ken Russell’s The Devils re-release was just outside the top ten, with $1.64 million from 350 screens.
