It’s often the case that marketing materials prepared for overseas territories show us some different footage and have a different tone from those prepared for domestic audiences. This is the case for Superman, with a new international TV spot being released in key overseas territories.
This TV spot shows plenty of Supes in action and is voiced over by Luthor expressing his hatred for Superman, as heard in the full trailer a few weeks back.
It also features an exchange between Lois and somebody who could be Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant, while seemingly confirming that this iteration of Lois will know, or at least find out, about Clark’s double life in this movie.
Meanwhile, Frank Grillo has been speaking to Screen Rant about his experiences working on DC projects vs. Marvel projects. He will play Rick Flag Sr. in Superman, after playing the same role in Peacemaker Season 2 and Creature Commandos.
He played Brock Rumlow / Crossbones in some Captain America films and Avengers: Endgame. There is a big difference in approach, apparently:
“When he asked me to do the role in Creature Commandos, he sent me every script, and not a word was changed. And then when he asked me to do Peacemaker, he sent me every script, and not a word was changed.
My role in Superman has a lot to do with Peacemaker, so it is connective tissue and, of course, not a word has changed. But because [the arc] is also constantly evolving, you need to be involved in how the characters change a lot more. Gunn’s all about the script – script, script, script.
Whereas Marvel, they’ll start a movie – part of it. And they have a script, but it’s not really a script. You start in, and then halfway through, you’re like, ‘Uh oh…’ I personally prefer scripts to be [fleshed out]. The way James Gunn is running DC is the antithesis to how Kevin Feige’s been running Marvel, and it – to me – is a better fit.”
Superman is out on July 11th, and Peacemaker season 2 arrives August 21st.
