The cast of Superman Legacy has assembled and started table reads ahead of the imminent start of shooting. Director James Gunn shared the first cast photo direct from the first table read in the form of a selfie. It appeared on his Instagram feed.

The photo shows David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Sara Sampai (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Maria Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer), with Gunn and co-producer Peter Safran.

New Supergirl actress Milly Alcock is not in the group, which means speculation she will appear in the movie remains unconfirmed at this time.

Superman Legacy forms part of Chapter One of the proposed new DCU, titled Gods And Monsters. The rest of the chapter is made up of The Authority, The Brave And The Bold, Supergirl: The Woman Of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing. There are also animated and live-action television entries.

The new film follows a younger Superman as he looks to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. Gunn previously said the film would take specific inspiration from the comic book All-Star Superman (2005–2008) by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, with inspiration also taken from other comic books.

Filming remains on track to kick off in March, and Superman Legacy is set for a theatrical release on July 11th 2025.
