The buzz out of SXSW was that The Fall Guy brought the house down. With Ryan Gosling hot off Barbie, and an Oscars performance, with a safe pair of hands in the director’s chair, could The Fall Guy be an unexpected hit of the summer?

Universal Pictures has premiered the second trailer for the remake which is “inspired” by the Lee Majors-led 1980s television series that brought us Heather Thomas in a blue bikini in the opening titles and did a lot to imprint upon impressionable teenage boys everywhere.

The Fall Guy

This new version co-stars Emily Blunt, rumored new James Bond Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, and Hannah Waddingham. The director of Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train, David Leitch, is in the big chair. The script was written by Drew Pearce (Hobbs and Shaw). Leitch and Kelly McCormick are producing. So it has the right pedigree to deliver a dose of silly fun.

.Gosling plays Colt Seavers, a stuntman who left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health after a near-death experience in a stunt gone wrong. When the star of a mega-budget studio movie goes missing, a film being directed by his ex Jody Moreno (Blunt), he is drafted in by the film’s ruthless producer (Waddingham) to fill the gap while also tracking down the star.

Seavers finds himself being drawn deeper into a criminal plot as he uncovers the truth about the star’s disappearance.

The Fall Guy opens in cinemas on May 3rd.
