It seems to have become an accidental tradition at the Last Movie Outpost that, on the weekend, we gather for a great debate. This, dear Outposters, is a good thing. It gives us all the chance to vent our opinions, which you cannot do anywhere else on the internet.

For this great debate, it’s not so much about movies, but more about the medium of music and visuals. In the review thread for Ali G: Who Iz I?, someone posted the video with Ali G and Madonna.
This video was by no means a visual masterpiece. However, there are music videos out there that are very creative. Instead of just getting the band or singer to dance 15 times in a row while lip-syncing to their song, then chuck it into the editing room. Some directors make a real effort to create something.
The first person I thought of was Chris Cunningham. He has made videos for Aphex Twin, for example, Come to Daddy.
OK, the music isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but the visuals, the editing, and the style of this, is amazing. You can tell that Cunningham has put a lot of time and effort into creating something that fits the music. If you haven’t seen it, check out Rubber Johnny; it’s weird, but such a well-done video.
The Great Debate
So, for the great debate this time around, we are combining visuals and music and asking:
What’s the best music video you have seen?
Does the cartoon style of The Gorillaz for Clint Eastwood do it for you? Did David Fincher direct a good video for Madonna’s Vogue? Does the old-school style of Spike Jones’ video for the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage kill it?
And be warned, if anyone posts Rick Astley singing Never Going to Give You Up, you might be banned! You and your children, and your children’s children… for three weeks.
So join the great debate and tell us: what is the greatest music video of all time?
