THE ODYSSEY Rules The Box Office

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is sweeping all before it, and is now a serious box office event.

In its second weekend it showed a remarkably tiny drop of just 18%. It added another $215.3 million to its global gross, taking it over $640 million in just 10 days.

Adding further insult to the injury of the subset of online commentators who seemed personally invested in its failure, its projected box office has been revised upwards, to $1.3 billion.

In the process, it would give Universal their third $1billion plus movie of the year.

The Odyssey did leak online via X, but Universal’s lawyers were swift and deadly.

Meanwhile, elsewhere at the box office, Toy Story 5 became the highest grossing movie of the year, with $1.022 billion in the bank. That was down in third place with $10 million domestic.

The top three were split by Moana in second place with $10.5 million.

Outside of Nolan’s juggernaut, the box office remains subdued. Once Spider-Man is done, there is a feeling this summer will have shot its bolt, and then things remain flat as we all go back to watch the upcoming big streaming shows and releases, until Avengers: Doomsday arrives at the end of the year.
