THE ODYSSEY Says “No” To Influencers

One of the things we frequently talk about here at Last Movie Outpost is the gap between reviews from online outlets and influencers, and those from professional reviewers in more traditional media. Only yesterday we saw that gap again with Supergirl.

Now it seems The Odyssey has taken a decision to swerve this completely. Universal Pictures is to skip these influencer screenings for Christopher Nolan‘s latest, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The Odyssey will have its world premiere in London on July 6th, and then have screenings for regular critics only.

Normally, the swell of bloggers, fan sites, and influencer fast reactions adds to the movie hype, and frequently gets out in front of negative reviews from the newspapers.

Outposters frequently point out the effusive praise from those enthusiastic at being made to feel special with a screening invite.

Nolan has form for ignoring this area. In the past, he earned the ire of Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool News for refusing him a screening invitation to one of his movies.

Knowles then further impacted his already declining credibility by posting a quite clearly snippy, negative review of the top rated movie.

This summer season, The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Disclosure Day, along with Supergirl, have all seen this gap between influencers are regular journalists.

The Odyssey is set to open in cinemas on July 17th.
