Do you remember The Old Guard? Anyone? It’s the one with Charlize Theron in it, anyone? Well, there is a sequel on the way.
I had to look up what the original movie was about. The story was:
A covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with an inability to die have fought to protect the world for centuries. But when their abilities are suddenly exposed, they need to eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate their power.
I have seen it, but I’m drawing a blank. On the IMDb, it has a metascore of 70, which means people like it, or the people who didn’t like it couldn’t be bothered to downvote it.
The Old Guard 2 stars Theron, Kiki Layne, Mattias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Veronica Ngo, Henry Golding, Kamil Nozynski and Uma Thurman. I assume some of them are returning characters?
The story for The Old Guard 2 is:
Andy leads immortal warriors against a powerful enemy threatening their group. They grapple with the resurfacing of a long-lost immortal, complicating their mission to safeguard humanity.
The studio commissioned this second movie in mid-2022, right after the release of the original Old Guard. The first film drew over 70 million views overall. According to reports, the team shot the sequel but then shelved it—until now.
Management changed at Netflix, which meant The Old Guard 2 was supposed to have a sooner release, but instead, had delays and later, reshoots. Uh oh, reshoots are never a good word.
The Old Guard 2 will be streaming on Netflix on the 2nd of July.
