The Terminal List was one of those shows where critics sniffily dismissed it, while audiences really enjoyed it. The series was the number one show on Amazon Prime’s Top 10 list within two weeks of its premiere and hit No. 3 on the Nielsen chart with 1.1 billion minutes viewed across eight episodes, even as critics delivered a 40% rating and named it, and the creator, as being politically suspect.
It told the story of Lt. Cmdr. James Reece, who loses his platoon of SEALs when they are ambushed on a covert mission. He returns home to his family with conflicting memories of the event and questions about his culpability. As new evidence emerges, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life but also the lives of those he loves.
Amazon Prime Video has now officially announced that a prequel series will be called The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. It will serve as a prequel to the original Chris Pratt and Taylor Kitsch series.
There is also a second season in the works to follow the events of The Terminal List.
Both Pratt and Kitsch will return for the new prequel series which will explore more of the backstory between Pratt’s US Navy SEAL James Reece and Kitsch’s former teammate turned CIA paramilitary operator Ben Edwards.
Then Pratt’s character will return to be the focus of the second season of the main show which is expected to begin production after Dark Wolf has completed filming. This is rumored to be based on original author Jack Carr’s book True Believer.
This new prequel spin-off hails from Carr and creator-showrunner David DiGilio. Several characters created by Carr for the books are expected to feature in some form to fill out their stories, including South African former SEAL Raife Hastings, Mohammed Farooq, and Ernest ‘Boozer’ Vickers.
Kitsch, Pratt, Carr, Antoine Fuqua, and Max Adams all join the executive producer roster on the prequel, which will have more focus on Kitsch this time around.
