I know a thing or two about spider movies. The spider movie big bang occurred in the 1950s and shows no sign of letting up any time soon. In fact, like the Universe itself, the genre is not only expanding but accelerating.
By my calculations, 17 spider movies were made in the 20th Century. But at least 40 spider movies have been made in the 21st Century. That’s more than double the output for the entire 20th Century, and we’re barely a quarter in!
I’m struggling to keep up. This year alone we have Spider Island, Don’t Move and now Crawlers to look forward to.

Spider movies fall into one of two broad categories: giant spider movies and regular-sized spider movies. Crawlers is in the latter camp.
Movies like Crawlers tend to compensate for their lack of size with volume. Thousands of the little blighters are running around an apartment building in this trailer. It looks genuinely creepy.
Another feature of regular sized spider movies is SUPER VENOM, so watch out for that too.
Crawlers stars Matilda Lutz, Gregg Sulkin, William Miller and Melina Matthews. Matilda Lutz played the title role in 2025’s laughable Red Sonja remake. That movie had its problems, but she wasn’t one of them.
