Trailer: HOPE

It’s nice when you’re browsing the net, and you find a trailer, of which you know nothing about. Wrenage posted a trailer for Hope, and we thought we’d share.

Interesting, very interesting, right? Hope stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Michael Fassbender, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton and Alicia Vikander. Na Hong-jin is the writer and director. He’s known for The Wailing, which is highly praised, but I couldn’t get my teeth into it. I might need to try it again.

The story of Hope is:

A mysterious discovery is made on the outskirts of the remote harbor town. The residents find themselves in a desperate fight for survival against something they have never encountered before.

It’s not giving much away, like the trailer, but it certainly looks engaging. Korean cinema has seen some awesome movies: The Host, Parasite, Oldboy, Train to Busan, I Saw the Devil. I’d rather see a Korean movie than a Hollywood movie these days.

Vikander and Fassbender are married in real life, and Vikander fell in love with Asian cinema. When she heard from Hong-jin, she was happy to say yes, and then she made her husband join the project as well. #UnderTheThumb.

Hope is the most expensive Korean movie made to date.

Hope has been seen at Cannes, but I cannot see an official release date yet.
