This was sent to us, but I don’t think it’s an indie movie, as the cast is pretty big. Here is a trailer for Juliet & Romeo. Be warned, it is a musical.
I’ve asked for a screener as I fancy this, I’m a sucker for a good musical, and it’s something I can watch with Mrs Boba Phil.
Juliet & Romeo stars Clara Rugaard, Jamie Ward, Jason Isaacs, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Dan Fogler, Derek Jacobi, Rupert Graves, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Tayla Parx, and Dennis Andres. Timothy Scott Bogart is the writer and director. The story is:
Based on the real story that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, follows the greatest love story of all time, set as an original pop musical.
Yes, Romeo and Juliet has been done before, but this might be a good take. It’s described as ‘a visionary original pop musical’. Obviously, there is Romeo + Juliet, with Leo and Claire, which was a stunning piece of work. This is a little more toned down.
Scott Bogart said about bringing the tale to the big screen:
“Romeo & Juliet is one of the most romantic stories ever told. And the challenge for any storyteller is to find a different colour that they can add. To work from a different palette. To me, what Shakespeare did was to express the poetry of his time. So, in searching for the poetry of our time, we turn to music…Original Pop Music.”
I know that most of you are going to turn your noses up at this, but come on, it’s something different. It’s not another superhero movie, it’s not a *whatever* swap, although it is a remake.
Juliet & Romeo will be in UK cinemas on the 11th of June, for a one-night event screening. I’m not sure what that means, but I’m going to give the movie a go.
