Shrek 5 doesn’t hit theatres until next summer, but Universal has dropped a trailer already.
This follows a short ‘cast announcement’ trailer released in February that caused quite a stir online. Apparently, they’ve done Shrek and Donkey dirty with the quality of the animation. Can’t see it myself.

There’s plenty of time to fix it. Remember the Sonic the Hedgehog U-turn? But why do that when you can just turn the comments off on the trailer instead.
The comments are active on other channels, including the one linked above, and the people still aren’t happy. I’m fine with it. They look older.
Which reminds me – animation must be a great gig. No matter how dead your career is, you’ll always get called back for the sequels unless you’re literally dead. Paul Newman must be spinning in his grave for missing out on the Cars follow-ups.
Anyway, it’s cool to see Eddie Murphy singing Roxanne in prison for the first time since 1982. I’ll personally like the comment of the Outposter who names the movie.
Other than that, the Shrek 5 trailer gives us a spot of bickering, donkey gurning, and a couple of mildly edgy jokes. There might be hope for this one yet.
Shrek 5 stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and a mysterious newcomer that goes by one name only, so they must be cool – Zendaya. Summer 2027 can’t come quickly enough.
