Star of Ghostbusters, Alien, and Avatar, nominated for an Oscar three times, and filling a spacesuit better than anyone in Galaxy Quest, Sigourney Weaver has had quite the career. Now, as The Mandalorian tries to shrug off a disappointing third season via a feature film, Weaver may be joining him.
According to a report on The Insneider, Weaver is in talks for a role in the upcoming The Mandalorian And Grogu. Jon Favreau directs. Does his profile, and heavyweight friends at Disney, mean he can keep this safe from the interfering tentacles of Lucasfilm’s other leadership? Time will tell.
Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy will also produce, alongside Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni who didn’t exactly cover himself in glory with Ahsoka.
Shooting will happen this year ahead of a May 2026 release date. The other Star Wars projects in the pipeline are the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed film starring Daisy Ridley, and the James Mangold-directed film about the dawn of the Jedi.
The Mandalorian was great for two seasons, then Grogu became a ball and chain rather than a narrative driver and it all started to feel a bit tired by the third season. The most interesting Star Wars stories, both creatively and narratively, since Disney took over were Rogue One, Solo, and Andor.
These were also the entries that featured no Jedi. This should teach Lucasfilm something, but looking at that slate it seems they fail to learn their lessons. Jedi are fucking boring, Kathy!
