Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 isn’t talked about nearly enough. It had a documentary style that really made it seem, well, real. He has recently announced on Instagram that he has a new project called Nightborne.
Firstly, don’t get too excited. As I was looking up, I found that he is planning a full-length feature film made by A.I. I’m really torn, but then I saw some footage.
Now, I’ll be honest, I haven’t had the chance to watch the entire thing yet, but if that is all A.I., then it is impressive. I mean, it looks ‘wrong’, but still impressive. We are getting to a point where it’s hard to tell anymore.
Blomkamp said about Nightborne:
NIGHTBORNE is the first full test AI film I have made. It was made using Seedance 2.0.
I’ve been experimenting with AI for a couple of years, and it’s now at the point where I want to tackle a full feature in this format. This is a 13-minute test start. It was made with real concept artists, and features 32 real people.
Barley Studios will be my new AI studio for creating my own films, the way Oats Studios was for traditional film and VFX.
As I said, Blomkamp’s District 9 is a great movie, but since then, he’s been a little hit and miss. His movies include Elysium, Chappie, Demonic and Gran Turismo. I have seen all of those movies but couldn’t tell you much about them now.
It seems like he is fully embracing the cause of human demise – I mean, A.I. It’s obviously not going away, so we know a full-length feature was bound to come out sooner or later. Is Blomkamp’s Nightborne the movie to change all our minds?
