Choosing to launch a brand new, superhero focussed, cinematic universe just as the trend is dying out and even reliable Marvel has lost its way seems like a strange move. Not completely killing off the old, failed universe for a fresh start seems even stranger. Why would you leave a confused, tangled mess of the old and new when the failure of the old was partially caused by confusion in the first place? Confusion over what the studio wanted it to be. Confusion over how to run a universe. Confusion over appropriate levels of interference. Now we have confusion over Wonder Woman.
In the latest of our ongoing series – Hollywood Does The Most Fucktarded Things – we discuss the rumor that Wonder Woman 3 is, in fact going to be developed as part of this new DCU according to the woman herself, Gal Gadot.
The James Gunn and Peter Safran DC Universe looked like a reboot, but with Peacemaker hanging over, and The Flash still out there in a multiversal maze, it looks like they may be about to mess this up before they have even started.
Gadot appeared as the character in cameos in both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash this year. Last year, Wonder Woman 3 development was abruptly halted as Gunn and Safran took over the reins. Jenkins exited the project, and it looked like Gadot may exit the role. There was no Wonder Woman 3 on the DCU development slate however, there was a Max series Paradise Lost that was to be set on the island of Themiscyra. Gunn has also said he’d like to develop a Wonder Woman animated series. Has this all now changed?
Has the failure of The Flash spooked Warner Bros. into insisting that third-tier content like The Authority and Swamp Thing is parked and the big trio of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are wheeled out yet again? In an interview with ComicBook.com to publicize the Netflix action thriller Heart of Stone, Gadot had this to say:
“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”
Or maybe she failed to understand the simple rule that nobody ever has a bad meeting in Hollywood, as they lie to your face while blowing smoke up your ass?
