Seth MacFarlane shows seem to demonstrate incredible survivability. Family Guy has been cancelled more times than I can count, and still, it rises phoenix-like from its own ashes, and now seems set for South Park and The Simpsons-style longevity. Is The Orville also going to survive?
MacFarlane’s sci-fi tribute to Star Trek, a comedy series clearly crafted with a love of Trek, has frequently surpassed modern Star Trek in its storytelling and quality, despite being a much lower-budgeted project.
With no news of a new season for more than two years since the show’s third season wrapped on Hulu, fans had feared the worst.
Now Scott Grimes, who plays the ship’s helmsman Lt. Gordon Malloy, was at a convention in Las Vegas to perform with his band, when he let something slip. He reportedly revealed to the crowd that a fourth season is happening and a January/February production start is pencilled in.

Peacock’s Ted, which stars MacFarlane and Grimes, has been renewed for a second season but there is no confirmation of any renewal for The Orville yet. This may come at the D23 convention next weekend.
