Acolyte

THE ACOLYTE Fans vs The World

We live in a funny old world. Entertainment is at an all-time low, but this low has also been causing strange events. Take The Acolyte for example.

In 2012 Disney bought Star Wars, which should have been a money-printing machine. There are millions of sad, pathetic losers, with disposable income, that would swallow down anything with Star Wars written on it.

The Force Awakens made over $2 billion worldwide at the box office. Awesome, that’s half the money back they paid for it. Everything is proceeding as they had foreseen.

It’s now 2024, and there have been a few more movies and a number of TV shows. We will give them seasons 1 & 2 of The Mandalorian. I wasn’t that big a fan of Andor, but credit where credit is due, it was one of the better series.

We’ve now just had The Acolyte and it’s one of the worst things Disney has done. So far.

The only good thing to come out about the series is that it’s made a lot of YouTubers very rich. OK, not really rich, but they have had a great run of hits, clicks and new members.

‘Fans’ Are Not Happy

Most Star Wars fans hated The Acolyte, and with good reason. It tore down lore, forced more of “the message” on us, and was just badly written and acted. The viewing figures hit an all-time low and the series got cancelled.

There was a lot of rejoicing across the galaxy from genuine fans. But there was also a scream from fans of The Acolyte. Yes, there were people that were upset that the show was cancelled. I say “fans of the show”, but there’s more to that, which I will be coming back to.

People like the Star Wars Theory, Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic, plus many more, were being honest about the series and calling it out. They said how bad the series was, how wooden the actors were, and how the writing was bad.

They Are All Racists And Bigots

It seems that the “fans” of The Acolyte have sent a letter to YouTube trying to demonetize Theory, Drinker, and basically anyone who didn’t like the show. Here, have a read.

Acolyte

It starts with Amandla Stenberg’s pronouns, so I’m out, but I love the line:

The Star Wars Fandom demands…

Who are you speaking for there, love? Not me. I’m a Star Wars fan, but I don’t want people demonetized. Well, maybe Disney, but they are doing that themselves.

The stupid thing is, I’ve seen the videos by Nerdrotic, Drinker, and Theory, plus more, and I have never seen anyone mention race. Did they say that Stenberg was a bad actress, yes, but then, in the show, she was. It had nothing to do with her race, gender, or anything else.

The entire campaign against Theory especially, is a targeted hate campaign against him. Ironically, just like the one they claim these guys have done. YouTubes response:

“Fans”

I’ve been reading through Twitter about what’s been going on. Man alive, it’s a cesspool over there. Anyways, The Acolyte “fans” have been saying how everyone who hated the show is just a bigot, sexist, *insert word here*-phobe and the word “Nazi” popped up a few times.

If a single one of them had actually seen the videos by the “haters”, they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. As I said, they never talk about anything but the show itself. No racism, no bigotry, just “This show isn’t very good”.

Theory’s response to this is twofold. He understands that there are racists online, and yes, they have been targeting Stenberg. He speaks out about such people and condemns them, like we all do.

He constantly says at the end of his videos to not go and cause any trouble for people who don’t like him, or anyone else. To be honest, he has a point, there’s no reason to attack these people. They are digging a grave for themselves anyways. It’s more fun to grab the popcorn and watch them self-destruct.

Secondly, Theory posted one word on Twitter the other day:

“Sue”

Some of the things said about him are slanderous and so he has every right to defend his name.

All-Inclusive

The weird thing is that most of the channels that are doing this hate campaign are always saying how they are very accepting and inclusive. Really? So you’re fine with people having a different point of view from you?

When they say they are “all-inclusive”, I’m sure they mean it in the way modern Hollywood is all-inclusive. You know, the way they change history to make sure all races, genders, and other fairy tale creatures are covered. Henry the XIII, I’m pretty sure he was a non-gender fluid, albino black man in a wheelchair.

If they really were all-inclusive, they would say:

“I liked this, you didn’t, that’s cool! We can still get along!”.

Not creating a targetted campaign to make them lose their livelihood.

Down The Rabbit Hole

This morning, there is still more to this story. It turns out (I think) that Mollie is one half of Star Wars Explained. Apparently, they have been given red-carpet treatment by Disney for a number of events. Shills, I think is the expression.

If that is true, they cannot possibly say anything against The Acolyte, the Mouse would remove their privileges. However, this targeted hate campaign has really backfired.

Yes, a few of their loyal fans are backing them up, but everyone else can see how shallow and jealous they are of guys like Theory.

As I said at the outset, what a crazy world we live in.

“I like this show.”

“Really? I didn’t like it.”

“You’re a racist bigot and I’m going to get you cancelled!”

“What? Just coz I didn’t like the show?”

“RACIST!!!”

I love the fact that here on the LMO we often have disagreements about things, but it’s all good. I’m happy to take on someone else’s opinion, and if it changes mine, fair play.

STar-Wars-Theory

I fear this isn’t the end of this story. Not as long as Disney still owns Star Wars. Things are just going to get worse.
