WICKED Publicity Hits Parody Levels Of Cringe

Look, we know it is not made for us, OK. We had hoped we could sort of ignore Wicked and go and do something else instead. But it is EVERYWHERE right now. Even more than that, as a production it keeps on doing things that are worthy of comment. Like this latest interview with the two leads.

If you had come cold to the interview from the Wicked publicity junket as it reached Down Under, you might be forgiven for thinking it is a skit. It is not. It is entirely real.

The cringe. It burns!

Dripping in the kind of fake sincerity that only Hollywood women can muster, complete with over-exaggerated empathy, it was impossible for me to view it without snorts of derision and rolling of eyes.

Does this make me some kind of misogynist agent of the patriarchy?

Wicked

Maybe I just don’t get it because the Princess Power wasn’t inside me all along and I just had to let it out. My frames of reference for my heroes are a journey that involves hardship, training, being tested, and eventually overcoming the challenge. It’s not something that can be solved with air kisses.
