Werner Herzog has had an interesting career, from Even Dwarfs Started Small to a remake of Nosferatu to him trying to buy a baby…in The Mandalorian. He’s back in the directors’ chair for a new movie, Bucking Fastard.
The movie will star, real-life sisters, Kate and Rooney Mara. Weirdly, this will be the first time they have acted together.
The plot for Bucking Fastard is:
Follows two inseparable sisters who live on the fringes of society.
It’s not been confirmed, but the story is believed to be based on a true story. Greta and Freda Chaplin, where twin sisters that would do everything together, even sometimes talking at the same time.
In the 80s, Greta and Freda became obsessed with a neighbour, so much so, he took them to court. Herzog has always been interested in the story of the Chaplin sisters. In a recent book, he said:
“I want to make a feature film about the twins Freda and Greta Chaplin. In 1981 they had a short run in the British ‘red tops,’ or tabloid newspapers, and were famous for a few weeks for being the ‘sex-crazed twins’ who were so infatuated with their neighbor, a lorry driver, that he took them to court and had a restraining order taken out against them. Their story is unique. They are the only identical twins we know of who speak synchronously.“
Hang on, so the story is about Kate and Rooney playing sex-crazed sisters obsessed with a neighbour and he filed a restraining order against them! Not me, I would have let it play out, I’d be interested in seeing what happens. Although, the real-life Chaplin sisters were not ‘lookers’.
Bucking Fastard is going to start production later this year.
