Robert Pattinson is currently starring in Mickey 17, from Parasite director Bong Joon Ho. It is reviewing strong with 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Pattinson is still attached to the role of Batman, with The Batman Part II expected to start filming for a 2027 release.
When it lands, it will be five and a half years after the release of the first movie. As part of the publicity rounds for Mickey 17, Pattinson was asked by Hero Magazine (via Dark Horizons) about returning to the role of Bruce Wayne and if he will start work on the sequel soon. To this, he said:
“I f*cking hope so. I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f*cking old Batman by the sequel.”
He’s right. He was 33 when he was first cast as Batman. He will be 39 when the sequel lands.
Michael Keaton was 37 for Batman (1989). Christian Bale was 31 for Batman Begins, and 38 for The Dark Knight Rises. Ben Affleck was 43 when he first put on the cape, to play a deliberately older version of Batman who had been around for years.
Pattinson’s original Batman outing had him as a relatively new Caped Crusader, in the second year of his crime-fighting career.
With writer/director Matt Reeves being impacted by strikes and other delays, has the time now passed for Pattinson’s version of Batman?
The Batman Part II is still scheduled for an October 1st 2027 release.
