DOGMA Gets A 4k Release

You know who used to be cool? Kevin Smith. Back in the day, he made movies like Dogma, and we all loved him. Then he sold out and made Masters of the Universe. In which he definitely did not make it about a “strong, female character”.

Where was I? Oh, yes, good movies from Smith. Dogma is getting a 4k restoration for its 25th anniversary. 25 years ago! Now I feel old! There will also be a re-release in UK and Irish cinemas of the movie.

Dogma starred (takes a deep breath in) Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Bud Cort, George Carlin, Jason Lee, Janeane Garofalo, Alan Rickman, Jason Mewes, Smith, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Ethan Suplee, and Alanis Morissette, who played god.

The rest of the information is from the press release. Originally released in 1999, writer & director Kevin Smith unleashed this sharp, irreverent religious satire that sparked conversation, controversy, and cult fandom around the world.

In the remastered 4K edition, DOGMA (now coined DOGMA: RESURRECTED) reintroduces audiences to the story of Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon), two banished angels who seek to exploit a theological loophole and return to Heaven – thereby inadvertently nullifying all of existence.

A reluctant abortion clinic worker, Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), is tasked with stopping them, guided by a heavenly host that includes the last scion of Christ, a muse, a pair of prophets, and the voice of God.

There is a trailer for the new 4k restoration.

Dogma will be in UK cinemas on the 7th of November and then later in disk form, I think. A Blu-ray isn’t confirmed in the press release.
