Filming began in early April 2023 in Los Angeles, before production was shut down in late May due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. It resumed by early January 2024 and had concluded by that April. The series was formally revealed in October 2024.
It has been tagged as tackling superhero fatigue head on, while being a “love letter to filmmaking, acting, and Hollywood itself”.
In the show, as a modern-day film reboot of a classic superhero TV series property is announced, with legendary filmmaker Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić) coming out of retirement to direct, Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is thrust into the world of superheroes, getting powers of his own, and becoming the superhero known as Wonder Man.
Sir Ben Kingsley reprises his role as Trevor Slattery.
Demetrius Grosse co-stars as Simon’s brother Eric Williams (aka. Grim Reaper) and Ed Harris is talent agent Neal Saroyan. Daniel Destin Cretton and Stella Meghie direct several episodes each, and Andrew Guest writes.
All eight episodes of Wonder Man will drop at once on Disney+ from January 27th.
