Fandom Fight!

This takes me back to the good ol’ days of the movie internet. Do you remember it? A time of Corona Coming Attractions, and when AICN was actually relevent.

Back then, there was sometimes nothing as vicious as fandom. Claws out, fur flying, as fights to the death happened over various franchises. There were just absolutes. No middle ground.

You were either “Team Star Wars” or “Team Middle Earth”. If you were a Terminator forum member, don’t you dare show your face in the Matrix discussion threads, unless you wanted to have a fate like a Crip wandering into Blood territory.

There could be only one!

Bless how young and stupid and completely insufferable we all were.

Well, now it seems some elements of fandom are at it again. This time, it is AMC’s Breaking Bad vs. HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The battleground? Who has the highest-rating episode on IMDb.

Since 2013 the Breaking Bad finale Ozymandias was the only episode of a show to have a perfect 10/10 score on IMDb. It was put there by over 300,000 ratings from users.

Breaking Bad

This all changed this week when, shock and horror, it dropped to a 9.9 rating and fell to ninth place.

Breaking Bad fans blame Game Of Thrones fans for review bombing the episode in an effort to get the fifth episode of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms to number one, after fans declared it the best Game Of Thrones episode of anything, ever.

Knight-Seven-Kingdoms

A social media war is underway. Insults will be hurled. Reputations won and lost. Nerds will be embarrassed. Wives shall consider divorce. A sore day, a red day…

Breaking Bad fans have retaliated with a swift flanking manoeuvre, and this has pushed the Thrones spin off even further down, leaving the finale of Six Feet Under in the top spot.

Fans of Six Feet Under may well now arrive, like Blucher at Waterloo, to influence the final outcome.

Thank God we are all much too sensible and mature to get involved in anything like this… right? Guys?
