Do you remember Malcolm in the Middle? Yes, no, maybe, can you repeat the question? See what I did there? Most people remember the series with fond affection, with its cutting humour, but with a good heart in the middle of it.
We didn’t cover it, but Malcolm in the Middle has had a revival by Disney, and it’s not good news. Then again, when is it ever good news when a re-*insert word here* is happening? Especially when Disney is involved.
Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, to give it its full title, saw most of the original cast back. Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Maczmarek, Justin Berfield, Christopher Masterson, and Emy Coligado.
The only person he didn’t return was Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey. He hasn’t acted since 2010, as he went to Harvard to study for a degree. In this new series, Dewey will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

Life IS unfair!
The new re-*whatever it is* has already been slated by fans online. Why? I’ll give you 3 guesses. Comments have been flying around like “absolute trash” with “no laughs, no chaos, no nostalgia” and no heart.
And then, there’s Kelly. There was a surprise pregnancy in the original finale. It’s now 18 years later, and Kelly, the new sister to Francis, Malcom, Reese and Dewey, is “an 18-year-old non-binary they/them”. Here is a clip from Twitter that has been doing the rounds.
Fans of “Malcolm in the Middle” all remember how the original series often hit the brakes on the jokes to do overly sincere monologues about knowing you weren’t really a girl at 5 years old, backed by cheesy piano loops, right? pic.twitter.com/hUd1k4dbf0

I can’t help but feel that Lois wouldn’t have stood for any of that!
On top of that, people have been critical that Malcom now has a mixed-race girlfriend. This seems an odd thing to moan about, since Francis married an Asian lady in the original series. I guess they needed a little more diversity.
Also, Stevie, the Black kid in the wheelchair, is now “super gay” and is married to a white guy.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life is Unfair is only 4 episodes and streaming now on Disney+.
