Highlander could find itself in a very exclusive bracket. Remakes we didn’t need, but are glad we got. Of course, it could also be a disaster, but at least there is talent involved.
Filming is now underway at Scotland’s Eilean Donan Castle on the reboot, and the BBC has published a number of images direct from the set of the project.
As you know by now, Henry Cavill stars alongside Karen Gillan, and Kevin McKidd.
Cavill takes on the Christopher Lambert role from the original, as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior.
With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez (Russell Crowe), the Highlander battles other immortals across oceans of time.
Here is the slight twist on the original – When the ruthless immortal Kurgan (Dave Bautista) resurfaces, backed by a secret organisation bent on unlocking the secret of eternal life, Connor is forced back into the Game – an ancient battle where ‘there can be only one’.
Guardians of the Galaxy star Gillan takes on the role of the immortal’s first wife, Heather MacLeod. McIntyre is expected to play Connor’s brother Angus.
WWE superstar Drew McIntyre was also spotted on set.

Chad Stahelski (John Wick) directs the film, which also stars Marisa Abela, Max Zhang, and Djimon Hounsou.
It’s expected to hit cinemas in 2027, but no release date is set.
