The second season of Marvel Studios’ animated anthology series What If? has premiered on Disney+. At the same time, Marvel dropped a press release that confirmed we are getting more Black Panther. We will get that in the form of an animated show Eyes Of Wakanda.
From Marvel Studios Animation, the series will premiere on Disney+ on an as-yet-unspecified date.
This was part of an event for the premiere of What If? that included a studio sizzle reel that included a first glance at X-Men ’97 and also confirmed that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the new title for Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
In Eyes Of Wakanda, various warriors from the hidden African, selfish, self-exceptional, and insular nation will travel the world searching for missing and stolen vibranium artifacts considered too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands. According to the blurb:
“Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.”
The animation side of things is being given legs as Marvel re-tools and reworks the live-action side of things to focus on quality over quantity. 2024 and 2025 are much leaner years for the MCU, deliberately it seems, after Bob Iger openly stated they needed to take more care and do less product.
Iger previously blamed movies produced during COVID and lower levels of on-set supervision for their woes. An excuse that, as any commentator knows, is simply a bunch of crap.
