Batman: Knightfall is arguably one of the most famous comic arcs of all time. It first introduced the villain Bane, and has been mined many times for story aspects used elsewhere in Batman adaptations.
Now, Batman: Knightfall is being adapted into a 3-part animated event by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and DC Studios.
The cast is impressive, with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man: Brand New Day villain Michael Mando as Bane, and Halo star Pablo Schreiber as Azrael.
The original 1993-1994 comic told of a Gotham City facing escalating chaos after a calculated plan by Bane to cause a mass breakout from Arkham.
The city-wide crime wave that results leaves Batman struggling to contain it, depleting him mentally and physically. This is all part of the steroid-enhanced Bane’s plan for the Dark Knight.

Bane confronts the weakened Batman, and breaks his back.
Bruce is replaced as Batman by Jean-Paul Valley – Azrael – who becomes increasingly violent and unstable in the role, forcing Bruce to find a way to heal faster in order to reclaim his cowl and, ultimately, stop Bane.
