Ellison Meets DC

Quick, look busy! The new boss is coming! Well, DC Studios are busy, and they do have a new big boss in the form of Paramount Skydance chair and CEO David Ellison.

Or at least they will do, as soon as the purchase of DC’s parent company Warner Bros. Goes through the final regulatory steps.

Ahead of all of this, it appears that Ellison has been out and about surveying his new domain, and this included a trip to Atlanta where Man Of Tomorrow is into the advanced stages of filming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have already met with Ellison who when he visited.

DC Producer Lars Winter told the trade that it went well:

“He came to Trilith [Studios] already. That’s where we shoot all our movies that James directs. He came to Atlanta, we showed him everything, and we’re having discussions with him.

He’s pretty open to what we’re doing. We do have a slate and a lot of it — obviously, Clayface is already coming out. We already have the Lanterns TV show. On those things, the train’s left the station. So we’re good. But he’s a big fan, he’s been great with us. He’s giving us kind of what we want. So far, everything’s good.”

One thing Ellison could be happy with are the commercials, as a report in Deadline has highlighted that Supergirl, widely expected to face face box office headwinds despite some tracking movement, doesn’t have too far to go to break even.

Why? Because there are  80+ sponsors tied to the film through purchased advertisements, retail store space, and campaign digital and linear impressions.

The net result is over $100 million in media value banked already, just as the movie premieres.

Weird times. Weird models.

Supergirl opens on Friday, and Man Of Tomorrow is next year.
