Jackson Biopic Moving

Lionsgate has pushed back its Michael Jackson’s biopic – Michael – into next year. According to The Hollywood Reporter this is due to significant reshoots.

There are 22 days of additional shooting planned. The Jackson Estate, producer Graham King, and the studios are trying to figure out how to circumvent any potential legal issues.

The movie is expected to be colitis into two parts, with Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer indicting the current cut of the movie is around 3.5 hours.

The script for a potential second film doesn’t yet exist, and any reshoots are for the first movie.

So it looks like the additional shooting is to build things out so the first movie tells a contained story, and the whole narrative can be split.

Trade sources say the first movie ends with Jackson leaving the Jackson 5 and the release of Off The Wall.

Jaafar Jackson stars as Jackson along with Colman Domingo, Nia Long and Miles Teller.
