Are Marvel finally learning that less is more? After years of up to 4 movies a year and superhero fatigue setting in, last year they just had Deadpool & Wolverine and the returns were massive.
This year, they had less content out there than peak years, but were still way up on 2024. We will see how their summer pans out once The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been released for a few weeks.
In all their press engagements, the studio has been talking about quality over quantity being the new mantra, and they are showing signs of movement on that front.
First, they took the decision to move out both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars by more than seven months to het them right.
They have also stripped out chunks of their future release schedules.
The website Cosmic Marvel is reporting that three untitled placeholder projects booked into slots im 2026 and 2027 have been completely removed.
Films that were set for release on February 13th 2026, November 6th 2026 and November 5th 2027 are gone.
So after The Fantastic Four: First Steps on July 25th, there won’t be a single MCU movie on the big screen until Spider-Man Brand New Day on July 31st 2026.
Then comes the next two Avengers films in December 2026 and December 2027.
It may be that this is it until 2027 from Marvel.
Could be a wise strategy, moving to make their movies more marquee events than purely episodic cinema.
In other Marvel news, there are rumors out there that Ghost Rider will appear in Avengers: Doomsday and that Zazie Beetz’s Domino from Deadpool 2 has been spotted on the Doomsday set.
