A24 is behind a TV series remake of Near Dark. Kathryn Bigelow’s 1987 vampire movie is described variously as a cult classic and a neo-Western. It is highly regarded by those who have seen it.
Near Dark starred Adrian Pasdar as a young man in a small Oklahoma town. He meets a mysterious female drifter (Jenny Wright) who bites him. As he realises he’s being turned into a vampire, he becomes drawn closer to a family of nomadic vampires.
The movie reunited Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, and Jenette Goldstein straight after their time on Aliens. It was positively reviewed, and Bill Paxton’s stand-out performance remains a talking point today.
According to reports at The InSneider, Bigelow is involved in this project. A24 is also working on the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
Near Dark was only Bigelow’s second feature-length movie. She would go on to make Blue Steel before really smashing her way into the consciousness of movie fans everywhere with all-time classic Point Break.
Bigelow is currently working on an untitled White House thriller that is due out in the Fall.
